Should You Upgrade From RS 3 Mini to RS 5 for Listing Video?

You hate fighting the RS 3 Mini’s sliding arms on an A7 kit. Reviews and forum replies push the full-size RS 5—knobs, touchscreen, automatic locks, briefcase handles. The price stings for a side hustle. When is the upgrade actually worth it for real estate video?

Field take: if video is a real product line, the full-size RS class is a large jump in daily usability. If you only film occasionally, squeeze more from balance and settings first—or buy a used RS 4 if RS 5 pricing is the blocker.

What the RS 5 changes day to day

Higher weight capacity and fine-tuning twist knobs replace fighting sliding arms for tiny balance moves. Automatic locks and a touchscreen speed setup. Horizontal-to-vertical swaps take seconds even with a large camera—useful when agents want both MLS walk-throughs and phone-ready vertical clips.

Buy base, add accessories later

Money tight? Start with the base RS 5. Add the DJI briefcase handle with built-in controls and an intelligent tracking module when invoices cover them. You do not need the full accessory pile on day one.

RS 4 as a middle path

Some shooters grabbed an RS 4 at a discount around the RS 5 launch and stopped shopping. For listing walk-throughs, they do not miss extra features. If a deal appears, a recent full-size RS often beats staying on a Mini you already resent.

When to stay put

If the Mini balances after practice, motor settings feel cinematic, and video is a rare add-on, keep the cash for lenses, lighting, or editing time. An upgrade solves friction—not a missing client roster.

Quick reference

• RS 5: knobs, capacity, locks, fast H→V—big daily upgrade.

• Mini pain is often balance + settings before it is “too small.”

• Base RS 5 first; briefcase handle and tracking later.

• Used RS 4 can be enough for RE walk-through work.

• Upgrade when video volume makes Mini friction expensive.

Upgrade when the Mini costs you time on every appointment—not when a launch video makes you feel behind. Full-size DJI gimbals pay off when listing video is a product, not a hobby.
