You want a bigger preview for shift precision but own an old sixty-four-gig iPad. Does CamRanger dump full files onto the tablet, or is it only a viewer?
Default mental model: camera cards remain the master. CamRanger keeps JPG previews on its own card for the app. You can push higher-res to the iPad when you need critical checks—expect slower performance.
Still writes to the body cards. Also writes JPGs to the CamRanger’s SD; the iPad reads that cache for viewing. Saving high-res to the iPad is possible but usually a manual or slower path—not what you want if storage is tight.
Pros set CamRanger to the lowest JPG size so the link stays snappy. For critical focus, peek the camera screen or a high-res pull when needed. Preview is for composition, level, and dust—not a second archive.
A framed iPad on a strap keeps the viewer handy without a second tripod. Stick a small white-balance reference card on the back for designer color checks. Show clients or agents the tablet when collaboration helps—keep masters on the body.
• Masters: camera cards.
• Previews: JPG on CamRanger SD → iPad app.
• Prefer low-res JPG for responsive control.
• High-res to iPad: optional, slower, fills old tablets.
• Focus-critical: confirm on camera when unsure.
Treat CamRanger as a smart viewfinder with a cache—not a second backup drive. Keep the iPad light; keep the cards honest.
Upload property photos and get a polished tour in minutes — no videographer required.
