You already block morning admin so agents do not book over email and delivery time. Now you want the same trick for lunch or a workout—mark an hour unavailable so the calendar looks full and you can eat at home or hit the gym.
That can work in booking systems with travel buffers. It also fights how many RE days actually run: eat while driving, shoot through the slot, collapse at night. The answer is usually both—protect time where you can and stop expecting a seated lunch break on max-volume weeks.
If agents only see open slots, hiding midday time forces later bookings or fewer same-day stacks. Same logic as protecting morning delivery— you are buying predictable human time, not just camera time.
Tools that add drive time and padding between jobs can create natural gaps without fake holds. Some shooters manually book exact durations—travel, fifteen-minute buffer, shoot length—instead of exposing a live calendar. Both approaches defend the day; pick the one you will actually maintain.
Many photographers report no formal lunch on multi-shoot days—you fuel in the car or not at all. Blocking an hour does not create appetite or parking; packed food does. Calendar fiction without cooler reality still ends at fast food.
Keep gym clothes in the car. On days with thirty to sixty minutes between shoots near a chain gym, squeeze a short session. Workout before the first job or after the last when gaps never appear. Ten thousand steps on the job counts as movement even when no gym happens.
Blocking time you will not use trains agents to expect impossible density. Blocking time you will use—for admin, lunch at home, or a walk—sets sustainable rhythm. Be honest about which kind you need this season.
• Fake “booked” blocks can protect lunch or gym like morning admin time.
• Scheduling tools with travel and buffer time automate gaps.
• Multi-shoot days: plan to eat on the road, not at a table.
• Gym clothes in the car; use 30–60 minute gaps when they appear.
• Steps on the job are partial exercise when the gym does not happen.
• Blocks only work if you use them for recovery—not just fewer visible slots.
Calendar design and meal prep solve different problems. Block time when agents would otherwise stack you into oblivion—and still pack lunch for the days blocks lose.
